Hubbard Park Place: Short North Apartments and Office Space

Are you curious to know what’s going on at the corner of Park Street and Hubbard Avenue? What is now a hodgepodge of heavy equipment and cement beams will soon be a brand new apartment and office building, called “Hubbard Park Place.” Schooley Caldwell designed this much-anticipated addition to the Short North/Italian Village area to contain 100+ apartment units, about 10,000 square feet of office space, and 155 parking spaces. Throughout the design process, one of Schooley Caldwell’s goals was […]

Lashutka Event Center to Be Completed in Fall of 2016

Planning a special event? You’ll want to see the new Gregory S. Lashutka Event Center! The Richards House (later the Dam Keeper’s House) was built in 1816 and is one of the oldest stone houses in the state. It sat vacant for many years and was on Columbus Landmarks Foundation’s list of Most Endangered Buildings in 2014; fortunately, the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department decided to convert it into a special event space and hired us to design […]

Here’s a great feature article by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority on the exterior work that is happening as part of the $125 million expansion and renovation of the Greater Columbus Convention Center: Also, work is progressing on the addition at the north end of the Convention Center – now that steel is up, you can get a good sense of the size and scale of the addition:

Elsewhere, the connector linking the north and south concourses is getting ready for new flooring. And on the exterior, work is beginning on the new addition at the north end!

A Very Grand Opening for Chillicothe’s Carlisle Building

The grand opening for the Carlisle Building was held in Chillicothe on October 19th, and hundreds of people came to check out the freshly renovated 1885 building, which now houses offices of Adena Health System and 32 apartments for medical students and visiting physicians. The Carlisle Building had withstood decades of neglect, and a fire in 2003, but developer The Chesler Group decided to rehabilitate it and hired Schooley Caldwell to design its transformation, which has been dramatic! Here are some […]

Columbus Metropolitan Library Main Library

Have you noticed Columbus’ Main Library is looking a bit different?

Construction is under way at the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Main Branch in downtown Columbus, and the change so far is dramatic! One of CML’s goals for this project was a better connection between the library and the Topiary Park, and, as you can see below, this is in progress. The formerly solid wall that faced the Topiary Park has been removed, and will be replaced with glass and a new exterior plaza. Here’s what the eastern elevation of the building […]

Carlisle Building Chillicothe Ohio

Revitalization of Chillicothe’s Carlisle Building

Schooley Caldwell designed the transformation of the historic Carlisle Block Building in downtown Chillicothe, a landmark that was originally built in 1885 and that had fallen into serious disrepair. The building has been unoccupied since a 2003 fire caused significant damage. Since then, several ideas were explored for its renovation, but none came to fruition. In 2012, Cleveland-based developer The Chesler Group bought the building and retained SCA to design the major renovation required to give the building continued life. […]
