Automated Guided Vehicle System (AGVS) The Ohio State University Medical Center

This 46-robot transportation system carries materials on nine different custom-designed carts to destinations throughout the four-building, 1.6 million sq. ft. hospital complex making over 3,000 deliveries per day. In conjunction with the automated transport system design firm and the Schachinger Group, Schooley Caldwell provided project management and architectural/engineering services to integrate the $20 million system into the hospital. Over 50 areas needed to be remodeled including a cold process kitchen, a manual steam clean room, a new dish processing area, and an interim central sterile supply. As the research hospital continues to grow, the AGVS system will be integrated into all major additions to continue efficient material handling throughout the medical center complex.
