Schooley Caldwell Associates served as Design Architect and provided engineering services to Treanor Architects for a master planning, renovation, and restoration for the Kansas Statehouse, designed to carry the building well into the 21st century. Phased construction was completed around legislative sessions.
Priorities included life safety improvements, sensitive replacement of the HVAC and electrical systems, improved accessibility, and preparing the building for its next hundred years of hard use. Design solutions included adding a new 600-car underground parking garage and claiming the entire ground floor as usable “found” space.
SCA’s role was to lead the project through the Schematic and Design Development phases (architecture, engineering and landscape architecture), then transition the design work to top local firms during the Construction Documents phase. We also monitored progress during construction.
