Closed as an elementary school for over 22 years and used mainly during that time for storage, the school reopened as a state-of-the-art education facility for 350 students. A program and space plan were completed followed by renovation and the addition of 6,400 sq. ft. that allowed the building to be reactivated. New music and art classrooms, kitchen and serving space, lobby area, expanded offices, enlarged multipurpose space and an expanded learning resource center were added. Upgraded spaces included 14 classrooms, small group instruction areas and individual counseling areas. This precursor of the District’s $1.5 billion reconstruction program helped convince the public of the school system’s ability to make major improvements in a timely and economical fashion.
