Robert K. Smith, AIA
Vice President, Architectural and Interior Design Department Manager
Robert K. Smith
Rob is an architect and principal of Schooley Caldwell. Although not an official title, he serves in the role of “chief architect” with the expertise to translate concept designs and turn them into buildable construction documents.
Rob is an expert with life safety codes and for many years has been teaching code officials about issues related to building height and area, occupancy, construction types, building envelope, egress, material requirements and elevators.
Rob is an active member of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Ohio, and AIA Columbus. He is Secretary of the Ohio Design Professionals and Code Analysts, Associate Director of the Ohio Building Officials and Ohio Board of Buildings Standards Liaison, and a professional member of the Building Officials Code Administrators and the Central Ohio Code Officials Association. Rob received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Ohio State University.
As one of 13 children, it’s realistic to think that Rob could have a “combatant” type of personality, but, instead, he’s one of the most easy-going guys we know (but don’t let that fool you, Rob always gets the job done in a quietly effective way!)
